"Streets of America"

the new CD!

Since its formation, Goldenseal has developed a reputation as a high energy, high quality band

and has received favorable reviews from music critics and journalists.

On August 21, 2002 Al Muzer of The Aquarian described Goldenseal's music as

a “sultry alternative pop groove with sticks to your ears hooks."

On January 30, 2002 Chris Barry wrote in his regular column

in The Aquarian called "Shoreworld" that his readers should catch

the "slashing guitar and lyrical macho of Goldenseal frontman Joe Hughes" in upcoming gigs.

I am the song writer, lead singer & rhythm guitar player for the band.

I try to sing every song like its my last chance to sing. While  onstage, I feel the passion for both the lyrics and the music as they come  directly out of people, feelings and events in my life. Goldenseal gives me the opportunity and platform to convey important  concepts while entertaining many people. I believe in the contract that exists between musician and fan and decided several years ago to surround myself with the best musicians and people I could find - and to give 100 percent every gig I play.

I've been playing the drums since 2nd grade and it's been a very big part of my life since then. I've performed at many great venues, with many talented artists and bands throughout my adult life - though being in Goldenseal is the most rewarding. Our songs lyrics have great meaning (thanks to Joe) and the music is uniquely our own. As a drummer, I believe the most  important thing to do when laying down a beat for a song is to make it BIG and  FAT. Also, paying attention to dynamics and accenting when needed, will help  make any song sound better. I, as well as the band, are very proud of our CD. Take a listen.

Jesse is a classically trained musician, composer, and arranger specializing

in upright and electric bass.

He has performed in many tri-state area bands covering a wide range of styles including rock, jazz, country, latin, and hip hop as a freelance "hired gun".  Along with playing as bassist for Goldenseal, Jesse owns a music studio in Metuchen, NJ and offers his expertise in teaching as well as recording.

Born into a musical family, and you'll often see his dad on stage playing harmonica. His music is full time! Influences range from Cliff Burton to Coltrane…

This is John!

I play lead guitar in Goldenseal.

When I was six years old I picked up a guitar and that was it for me!

I have been playing in clubs

for 10 years! My approach to soloing is shaped by the needs

of the song and the input

of the players around me.

I really enjoy energetic rock n roll, but like to play tunes that emphasize melody.

My main guitar influences are

Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page.

Here's to a great show!

Goldenseal is a dedicated original band, but the members are also capable of playing cover material - especially music written by the pioneers of rock such as

Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. Current influences include bands such as Green Day and Cold Play. Accordingly, Goldenseal has the ability to play

in clubs where covers are expected and, at the same time, interject its own brand of  timeless and powerful rock and roll.
